Buddhist Association of China was founded in 1953 as a branch of the Chinese government, where the chairman doesn't have to be a Buddhist, but is instead nominated by the Communist Party. It has warned of Falun Gong, a spiritual movement defined as an "evil cult", that is banned in the People's Republic of China.
