Maria Straatmann, a former scientist and businesswoman, has been a student of Vipassana meditation since 1996. She is a graduate of the Sati Center Buddhist Chaplaincy Program; has been trained as an End of Life Counselor by Alaya Institute; and serves as a hospice volunteer for Zen Hospice Project and Hospice of Marin. In addition, Maria is a staff person with Commonweal Cancer Help Program and coordinates Commonweal's Support Groups for People with Heart Disease.
