Sadhu! Amituofo!

Thank you for visiting the Buddhist Encyclopedia.

Allow me to humbly introduce myself, my real name is Edmund Chan, a humble webmaster of this site. This project was born when a small group of laymen Buddhists (Teo, July, Jasemeend and me) come to the realizations to the urgent need for a free online encyclopedia that is edited by people that come from the viewpoint within the Lord Buddha's disciples. If we are to spend some time to search on Buddhist terms over the internet, we will come to an agreement that the Buddha Dharma has been miss-represented and confused by the many non-Buddhist encyclopedias. We feel very sorry after reading articles from those encyclopedias, which doesn't give the true picture of what Buddhism is.

Let us build an encyclopedia that's edited by Buddhist. We welcome all Buddhist to participate in this great project. Currently, we've copied nearly 3,000 articles from other sources to serve as templates to our edits. From this number, about 600 are articles of the more important Buddhist terms. We welcome you all to edit and correct these articles, according to the sutras as thought by Lord Buddha. Let us create new articles if it is absent. Let us delete the article if it is not relevant. Let us publish all the sutras, commentaries, and the valuable teachings hand down to us from all the great Buddhist Masters. Let us organize them into a systematic and easily understood way.

Let us make the Buddhist Encyclopedia as an inclusive, non-sectarian and a non-prejudice medium that spread the Buddha's compassion as taught by all the three great vehicles.

I understand that there was an error in the "create account" section, where new users were unable to create new account. Please excuse me for that. The error has just been solved a moment ago. If you face any difficulty, please feedback to my email at helpdesk@2be.net. Your feedback is the most valuable to us.
